Mexico Libertad

1) Recognition - Name - Country of Origin
The Libertad (meaning "Freedom" in English) coin is minted at the Casa de Moneda de Mexico. This gold coin is also referred to as "Onza" or "Siegesgöttin" (Goddess of Victory). It is a widely circulated bullion coin and enjoys significant popularity and recognition.

2) Description of the Coin
On the obverse (front) of the coin, the standing Goddess of Victory, Libertad, can be seen on a pillar. In the background, the Mexican landscape with two volcanoes is faintly visible, along with the fine weight of the coin and the minting year. On the reverse of the coin, there is the National Coat of Arms of Mexico. In the center is the current state emblem surrounded by ten historical emblems. This applies only to the one-ounce coin. For the smaller denominations, only the state emblem without the historical emblems is depicted. Additionally, the inscription "Estados Unidos Mexicanos" is imprinted on this side, which translates to "United Mexican States."

3) Face Value - Legal Tender - Value
The coin does not have a face value, but it is still considered legal tender in Mexico. However, the value of the Libertad coin is based on the daily determined gold price.

5) Special Features - Minting Years - History - Mintage
The motif of the Libertad coin, the Goddess of Victory Libertad, symbolizes Mexico's independence. In 1810, the Mexican citizens began their fight against the Spanish colonial rulers who had governed the small country until then. It was only after a decade-long war that the Mexican insurgents emerged victorious in 1821, declaring Mexico's independence. To this day, there are numerous national holidays that commemorate the victory over the colonial power, Spain. Additionally, in 1921, on the hundredth anniversary of this victory, the Centenario coin was first minted. It served as a predecessor to the Libertad coin and already featured the image of the Goddess of Victory Libertad, which remains one of the essential characteristics of today's coin. Since 1981, the current Libertad coin, as we know it, has been minted. In 1991, the gold content was increased (see table above). The Libertad coin is one of the top-selling gold bullion coins.
