Netherland Guilders

1) Recognition - Name - Country of Origin
Gold guilders from the Netherlands were extensively minted as circulation coins from 1818. Today, they are used as investment coins in tradable condition. The coins feature portraits of the Dutch rulers Willem I, Willem II, Willem III, and Queen Wilhelmina.

2) Description of the Coin
The obverse (front) of the gold guilders displays the portrait of the respective ruler or queen, depending on the minting year. On the reverse (back), the Dutch coat of arms is depicted. The coins have a robust 900/1000 gold alloy and conform to the gold content standards of the Latin Monetary Union (LMU).

3) Face Value - Legal Tender - Value
The gold guilders have face values of 5 guilders and 10 guilders. They were formerly used as circulation coins and held official legal tender status in the Netherlands. Presently, they are traded as investment coins, and their value is determined by the prevailing gold price.

Gold guilders were minted in denominations of 5 guilders and 10 guilders.

5) Special Features - Minting Years - History - Mintage
Gold guilders were minted from 1818 until their discontinuation in 1933. The coins bore the portraits of the respective Dutch rulers and Queen Wilhelmina. They had a gold content of 900/1000, in accordance with the standards of the Latin Monetary Union. Gold guilders are now sought-after investment coins and are traded based on their gold content. The guilder was the official currency of the Netherlands before the introduction of the Euro. A notable commemorative coin is the 1 Gulden BEATRIX gold coin, issued in 2001 to bid farewell to the guilder currency and welcome the Euro. It has a fine gold content of 13.2 g and a fineness of 999.9.
